Welcome to my blog!
I photograph...

because a memory should never be lost.
because love is all we need.
because today will be gone tomorrow.

I am thrilled to finally post images from this wedding that I have been looking forward to ever since their engagement session! What a gorgeous day and even more lovely couple! It threatened to rain and even did a little during the ceremony. But I'm happy to say it held off during our time in Ann Arbor. The wedding party was amazing! We had such a great time with this group all day. Please enjoy...

Loved her dress and shoes...

When I first sat down with Nikki and Rob to talk about their wedding, I was engaged by their down-to-earth personalities. They are both very hard working and "sometimes" planning a wedding can be a bit stressful... ;) but we started talking about their day and I knew they were taking things in stride. I did get a little surprised when she told me she hadn't yet picked out a wedding gown. This was 7 months out! She laughed when I told her to "get on that" and a few days later I got an email that she was going dress shopping. From there on out I got updates, and once the dress was purchased, she sent me a photo. I promise you reader, my jaw dropped! I was so excited! I replied with my enthusiasm and let her know what I thought. She was going to rock that dress and I couldn't wait to see it in person, that she was going to stand out. She replied "I changed my mind again, when I went back I decided to go for the gown I originally wanted that was a little more" but I got another photo. All is well, the dress is even more fantastic!! :)

Do I assist all my brides with wedding gowns? Heavens no, but I am always here for any wedding "assistance". :)

I hope you enjoy these photos we shot in Plymouth, originally I was looking to stick to the main drag, like before, but there were so many people around it was stressing me out and the sun was not going to last forever. I'm so glad we moved to the back area, I found some great little nooks for shooting and it was virtually people free!

I loved this wedding! Susie and Tom are such down to earth people I couldn't wait to shoot their wedding. The style that Susie put into everything was right up my ally! :) It was such a lovely intimate wedding, I hope you enjoy the photos as much as I do!!

I first have to say that I was in LOVE with her dress. Hands down super fabulous style...

Vicki Gassel says:

As mother of the groom (sporting a few more 'creases' in my pic than I'd like to admit to) I must say the wedding and reception exceeded all my hopes and dreams. And words simply do not do it justice. The pictures are beautiful and capture the essence of the moment. Well done Rachel! For the record, the suits were purchased (not rented tuxs) and I have spoken with the Regional VP of Bachrach Clothiers about our experience--the tiny vest wasn't the only problem, just the 'biggest' one (sorry about the pun!)

(08.20.11 @ 12:51 PM)
Vicki Shugart Gassel says:

By the way - The VP wants to see the picture so I'll be sharing this link. Mike already 'friended' Bachrach on fb and posted the pic.

This little angel is my niece, and you might remember seeing her from her 1-year-session. How sad that she is now in the "children" category! They do grow up fast, don't they? When my sister in law first asked about setting up a session, there was some talk about "she's everywhere these days, she will be a handful".  I suppose I could have stuck her in front of a backdrop and got out a puppet and wore myself out begging her to sit still, but that isn't her personality! As with most 2-year-olds, the objective for me is to capture who they are. So here is a small tutorial designed to help anyone trying to master this fete. :)

Step 1: Take her to a fun place that can be both entertaining and distracting. We chose the Detroit Zoo.

Mia2_001.jpg

Step 2: You distract her with butterflies!
Mia2_017.jpg
Mia2_014.jpg

Step 3: You let her make a splash!
Mia2_040.jpg

Step 4: You distract her with flowers. :)

Mia2_041.jpg
Mia2_044.jpg

Step 5: You let her climb on things (with mom right behind her of course!).

Mia2_057.jpg

Step 6: You promise her snacks, kids get VERY excited with anticipation for snacks!

Mia2_066.jpg
Mia2_070.jpg

Step 7: You give her a snack!
Mia2_080.jpg

This set in front of the fountain might be my favorite. It has such a Parisian feel to it, and she looks like such an angel in that perfect dress! Mom really did a good job of keeping her entertained. :)
Mia2_082.jpg

Step 8: You make her the center of attention. She is, after all, the birthday girl!
Mia2_114.jpg

Step 9: You let her bond with her big brother. And boy do these two have a sweet relationship. I love the way she says "Donimick" :) (no I did no misspell, she says it wrong and it is oh-so-cute!)

Mia2_116.jpg

My second favorite of the day!
Mia2_126.jpg
Mia2_133.jpg

Step 10: You reward her with treats! I brought these along to act as a needed bribe, and it certainly helped us snap the most fantastic family shots of the day. It's a secret weapon, use with caution! Once that sucker is handed over, there is no removing it :)

Mia2_169.jpg

Dear M, please stop growing so fast! That is all. Love, Aunt Rachel :)
